[Sponsored Post] Pretty Christmas Gift Idea
I’m a little bit obsessed with flowers. I could spend a thousand years in a garden center, or strolling around looking at people’s yards. My photos from tropical vacations are disproportionately weighted toward close-up shots of weird flowers and obsessively shot bromeliads. I have seen birds of paradise growing in the wild, and it thrilled me probably more than it should have. I got a little weepy the first time I saw jacaranda growing wild, because it’s always showing up in my travel books. Do not get me started on night-blooming jasmine. I was at least as excited about the spice farm we visited in Tanzania as I was about the leopards we saw. A pepper bush! Shut the front door!
I like my flowers either huge and showy, pink and orange and yellow, or simply white with spare greenery. I want the scent of them to fill the room.
I send flowers to my friends for their birthdays. I send my dad and his wife a big bouquet each year for St. Patricks’s Day, their personal peak point of the year. I’ve sent flowers to friends who have lost jobs, and to loved ones who have gotten new ones. (I’m careful about sending flowers to friends who have recently had their hearts broken, lest they get that wild ecstatic leap of hope that the bouquet being dropped off is from someone much more exciting than me.) That being said, I received two bouquets when Lieu kicked me to the curb like an empty bag of Fritos, and they really did gladden my poor, bruised little heart.
When the folks at Single Edition Media asked me to write about HBloom, a new flower subscription service, I was happy to oblige, both because I think everyone should get fresh flowers on the regular (especially in winter, ugh) and because I’m kind of a whore for swag and they sent me a lovely holiday-themed bouquet with purple roses and ornaments.
If you’re looking for something to buy me for Christmas, or for a sweet and surprisingly inexpensive way to treat yourself, check them out. It’s am easy way to get gorgeous, affordable flowers delivered every week, every other week or each month starting at just $29/delivery. You get a complimentary vase with your first order (I require that all of my vases be square, FYI) and delivery is always free. There is no membership fee, no minimum commitment and you can cancel any time. Get your first bouquet free when you subscribe to H.Bloom, no code necessary. (Excludes the Arrange Your Own collection. See www.hbloom.com for restrictions)
I’m particularly drawn to the Arrange Your option, designed for people like me who love to channel Martha Stewart and create their own bouquet. Subscribers to this collection get a bundle of loose stems that is plentiful enough to create 1 large and 1-2 small arrangements. Each delivery is accompanied by an instructional video with tips on how to use the flowers.

HBloom in DC used to be Petals for the People (HBloom acquired them), run by a good friend of mine. She still has her floral design business, Urban Petals, for events and for those Martha Stewart moments, she posts “how-to” flower videos on her other site: http://www.flowerempowered.com
Hi,
Thanks for the post! We definitely love the Arrange Your Own collection, especially since we get a lot of subscribers sending in pictures of their arrangements.
And, thanks for the heads-up about the vase. If you decide to become a subscriber, just send a note to our customer service team and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Cheers,
